Inishowen’s Dan Doherty has won the Anglo Celtic Plate 100km held in Perth, Scotland. Doherty’s time of 7 hrs 5 mins 32 secs knocked almost two minutes off his previous best and was just 26 seconds off the Irish record of 7:05.06. This was set by Thomas Maguire at the World 100km in 2006. Irish athletes have a good record at the Anglo Celtic Plate, with Keith Whyte the winner last year.
Doherty made his Irish debut at the 2011 Anglo Celtic Plate, finishing in 7:19.29. He hopes to run at the European 100km Championships on April 27 and the World 24-Hour Championships on May 11 before making an attempt at the Wicklow Way record over the summer.
