Kate O’Connor of St Vincent’s Dundalk produced the star performance at today’s Irish Life Health Taiteann Games with a new record throw of 47.63m for the javelin.
In the women’s steeplechase, Alannah Neff of Carrigaline Community School was also in record breaking form clocking 5:08.51 for the 1500m distance. Second was Roisin Treacy of St Gerard’s Bray.
There was an emotional victory of Keelan Kilrehill of Colaiste Iascaigh in the boys 3000m. After he broke his back in a cycling accident, few believed Kilrehill could recover so quickly.
Patience Jumbo Gula of St Vincent’s Dundalk won the 100m in 12..07 secs, with Rhasidat Adeleke of Presentation Terenure first in the 200m in 24.73 secs. The pair later teamed up with Robyn O’Brien of Mount Anville and Siabh Ni Thuathail to win the 4x100m for Leinster.
Coming home first in the 800m was Jo Keane of St Flanna’s Ennis in 2:15.26. Castleknock Community College’s Molly Brown was second in 2:16.45. Amy Hayde of St Mary’s Newport was an impressive winner of the 1500m, while Abby Taylor of Wesley won the 3000m. There was an impressive victory for the Leinster quartet in the boys’ 4 x400m – Ciaran Carty, Simon Ayers, Jamie Sheridan and Aaron Mangan.
