Here you see the Sheraton Hotel, which is the best known building in town, open for over 25 years. Every weekend (ie on Friday afternoon after morning mosque attendance and even more so on Sunday), families congrerate in this park and other “family” only spaces for picnics. You would not believe the selection of vacuum flasks in this town! From about 3pm on, there are groups everywhere, sitting around a rug, drinking copious amounts of Arabic coffee or “Lipton” tea, eating nuts and seeds (leaving the shells everywhere) and other goodies.
Yesterday, the entertainment for those strolling along the C*rniche was F1 powerboat racing. The few people watching these hyper-powered toys screaming around the bay had the same look of blank incomprehension as your current correspondant. Give me a decent bookshop anyday!
