Results Round-Up Nov 10-16 (ongoing)

* Just passed 200,000 hits on this blog; chuffed!
* Over 5,000 turned out for the Mark in the Dark charity run in Dublin’s Docklands. Cork got over  1,000 and Belfast about  600; see below. Plus results/pics from East Leinster Schools Cross-Country in Blackrock College, Dublin, with a record entry.
* Fionnuala Britton just missed out on third place at the international cross-country in Burgos Spain. She finished  47 seconds behind the winner Ayalew Hiwot of Ethiopia  and just behind British athlete Jessica Coulson from Stockport.  Portugal‘s  Sara Moreira was a close fifth . Ava Hutchinson finished a creditable 9th, followed by  Sarah McCormack 13th and Kerry Harty 21st.  In the men’s race, David McCarthy of West Waterford finished 18th despite a fall on the second lap. The race was won in a photo finish by current world champion Imane Marga of Ethiopia.  In the junior men’s race,  Sean Tobin of Clonmel finished an impressive second.
*Star of the Sea’s Colm Costello just beat Bryan Keane to win today’s Remembrance Run 5km held on a perfect autumn day in Dublin’s Phoenix Park. Cillian O’Leary of Raheny was third. First of the women was Catherina McKiernan, with Una Britton of Kilcoole second and Alvy Carragher third.   A few pics at www.lindie.zenfolio.com

Gerry Ryan
Lizzie Lee
* Gerry Ryan of Craughwell was a clear winner of the men’s 10km at the annual Hollymount Road Races in Co Mayo. Leevale‘s Lizzie Lee was first in the women’s 3km, with local athlete Mary Gleeson not too far behind.

* Mullingar Harriers have won all ten team titles at the Leinster Uneven Ages in Dunboyne. Bronagh Kearns of St Senan’s had a solid win in the W19 race, with Shane Fitzsimons of Mullingar winning the M19 title. At the Dublin Uneven Ages in Marlay, Siofra Cleirigh Buttner of DSD won the W19 race ahead of clubmates Clare McCarthy and Sarah Miles; Killian Mooney, also DSD,  was first  M19 with DSD winning six team titles.
* Ide Mac Dhomhnaill of Donore won the Leinster Inter C-C title at Dunboyne. With twin Sorcha finishing sixth place, Donore was also first team. Special mention for Charlotte Kearney who finished fifth and led Donadea Running Club to third among the teams; a first (we suspect) for this “new age” running club.  Liam Brady of Tullamore Harriers was a clear winner of the men’s race, with Dunboyne’s Luke Forde second; Brian Kelly in third place led St Abban’s to team victory.
* No winners but second places for Sarah Collins (Finn Valley), Shane Quinn (Ferrybank), Breandan O’Neill (DSD) and David Rooney (Raheny Shamrock) in the regional finals of the NCAA Cross-Country Championships. All four qualify for the national final.
* Solid wins for Joe Warne and Niamh Devlin at the Bank of Ireland BHAA Beach race at Dollymount Strand. Good to see some new names among the winning teams.
* Michael McSwiggan and Rachael Beck had the honour of leading the 159 men and women home at the first ever Parkrun 5km in this country held at  Malahide Castle. Good to see visitors from North Belfast Harriers, Ballymena and England, all clearly familiar with the concept, taking part in the run. Rumour has it that future venues in the Dublin area could include Marley, Corkagh and Tymon.
