Grace Lawlor (Pres Carlow), her brother Marcus (CBS Carlow) and Cliodhna Manning (Loreto Kilkenny) all managed sprint doubles at today’s Aviva Leinster Schools Track and Field Championships held in Arctic conditions at Santry.
At inter level, Joseph Ojewuni of Deansrath and Dean Power of Killina proved the class with Ojwuni winning the 100m ahead of Power and the pair swapping positions in the 200m.

Despite the cold and breeezy conditions, records fell in the inter boys and senior girls pole vault competition, with both Peter O’Brien of St Fintan’s and Rachel Swan of Rathdown adding a centimetre to the old marks.
Siofra Cleirigh Buttner (Col Iosagain) was out on her own in both inter girls’ 800m and 1500m, while Linda Conroy (Mercy Kilbeggan) has an equally comfortable victory in the 3000m,beating Sarah Ni Maolmhuire (Col Iosagain). Sinead Burke of Maynooth PP set a new record of 10:02.43 in the 2000m walk.
At senior level, Sarah Buggy of Castlecomer jumped 11.49 in the triple jump to break her own record, set last year, and also won the long jump. Iseult O’Donnell (Santa Sabina) won the 800m and Mary Mulhare (GC Portlaoise) the 3000m.
The final record of the day came in the senior boys’ 4x100m won by Blackrock in 43.23.

* Abroad, Deirdre Ryan (DSD) cleared 1.80m on her first attempt at the Diamond League Meeting in Shanghai and then attempted 1.84m without success – not helped by the heavy rain. Winner was world indoor champion Chaunte Lowe (USA) with 1.92m.
* Stephanie Reilly (Sli Cualann) was fifth in the steeplechase at the Oxy High Performance Meet in California with a time of 9:54.55.
* Sergiu Ciobanu of Clonliffe and Sharron Rynne of Kilmurry won the Sixmilebridge 10km in Co Clare. Matt Bidwell and Mary Greeson were the winners at the Balla 8k.
