Cork athlete Jill Hodgins won the Seville Marathon today in a new personal best time of 2 hours 46 minutes 58 seconds. The time knocked six minutes off her previous best of 2:52.21 set in the 2009 New York Marathon. Jill is the latest athlete to join the Marathon Mission squad sponsored by the National Lottery Dublin Marathon in association with Athletics Ireland.
A former Irish international hockey player, Hodgins ran a time of 3:14.35 in the 2006 Dublin Marathon and improved that to 3:06.35 in Toronto in 2008. At that time she was still playing club hockey with Dublin club Hermes.
Jill has a distinguished athletics pedigree – her father Dick is a former national marathon champion, closely associated with the Cork City Sports.
