More die on buildings

Another sickening accident on the buildings – and this time it’s at Al B*da, near this apartment, where I have been gleefully photographing the frenetic tearing down of entire streets, usually by one man and his digger (which shows just how well constructed these buildings are).

In this case, five Pakistani construction workers were trapped in the debris of an old, multi-storey building after it suddenly collapsed while being demolished. One was rescued because he had a mobile phone. The bodies of two others were found pretty immediately. Sniffer dogs were brought in to find the other two. All five were Pathan; close relatives hailing from the Swat district of Pakistan’s North WestFrontierProvince, aged 19 or 20. Apart from the rescued man, they have been in this country for less than a year.

And there will be plenty more from where they came from…
