The Cru – Sinead, Mary, Karen, Hilary, Maureen, Geraldine. 
Hilary and Karen on the dreaded hill!
Forget the race up front, the real battle at the Meet and Train race in Lucan came a bit further down the field. Karen, Hilary and Sinead were running together for much of the race. But come the tree just before the finish, where coach had instructed everyone to put the boot in, and Karen made a sprint for it. Not even Hilary could keep up and the flying Karen just made it home first. Their times: 19 mins 55 secs and 19 mins 56 secs. Not bad at all on a muddy course which everyone found draining.
Still the omens had been good from early that day – Geraldine saw not one but two black cats, I picked up a penny and there were pairs of magpies everywhere. Even the rain, which had threatened earlier, stayed off. So well done to Mary 17.26, Maureen 17.33 (both wearing their brand new trail shoes, which sure didn’t look brand new after the race), Geraldine 18.03 and Sinead 20.15 as well as to Karen and Hilary.
