My lovely Romanian skimmers, one on his stilts.
A lot has been happening. Willie the builder, who has a pacemaker put in just before this job started, started feeling weak ad was carted off to hospital for tests last Wednesday. I only heard on Friday; had been wondering why is coudln’t get an updated schedule of expenditure. Willie’s doctor was away so he’s been stuck in hospital since then and finally got to see a doctor last night. His crew led by Justin have been great (if you want a builder, I can thoroughly recommend Willie Ryan and his lads).
It has also forced me to take a more active part in the work, not a bad thing. After going through the costs for a few hours, have knocked off a €3,000 bill for soundproofing the new room and cut a further €2,000 from the bathroom.
My biggest problem now is the external insulation which I have realised belatedly I don’t want. My house is already insulated internally and I don’t like the sound of the external stuff – it’s poly something or other so it won’t breathe. Plus apparently you need some kind of pumping system to clear the air or you get mould. And it’s way too expensive for the minimal savings it will give me. I live in this house, it is warm enough for me, and I would like the sitting room sorted and a few other things done. Am going to see if I can pull out of the deal.
