Siofra Cleirigh Buttner ran a personal best and world junior qualifying time of 2 mins 4. 82 secs for 800m at last night’s Dublin Championships in Irishtown. Paced by her Dundum South Dublin clubmate Sinead Denny, Buttner, aged 16, went through the first 400m slightly faster than expected in under 60 seconds but held on for a fine victory.
At the weekend, Buttner had won her 10th and 11th Irish schools titles in Tullamore. She next competes at an international in Mannheim Germany in two weeks time, and will sit out this Sunday’s National League round in Tullamore.
In other races, Irish 800m championSiobhan Eviston of Raheny Shamrock won the 400m in 55.86, while in the 100m, Catherine McManus of Celtic DCH came home ahead of Celbridge’s Claire Brady and Aoife MacNeill of DSD.
Tomas Rauktys of Clonliffe threw a fine 16.17m to win the men’s shot. On the track, James Davis of Raheny won the 100m in 11.04, his clubmate Ciaran Kelly took the 400m title in 51.54 and Kristaps Valters of Clonliffe won the 800m in 1:55.48.
Round 2 of the Dublin Championships take place in Santry on June 20.
