Kevin Dooney of Raheny Shamrock made a brave attempt at Frank Greally’s 42-year-old Irish junior 10,000m record of 30 mins 17 secs at the Dublin Graded League Rd 3 in Irishtown. He fell short by only six seconds when he finished in 30:23.63. Annadale’s Paddy Hamilton won the race in 29:43.57 , with Brian Maher of Kilkenny also under 30 minutes after making of the early pace with Rathfarnham’s Sean Hehir third.
Running with the men was Maria McCambridge who achieved the European Championships standard for 10,000m when she finished in 33:22.79.
Later in the evening, John Travers of Donore won the 1500m in style, while DSD’s Emmet Jennings was first in the steeplechase.
