* Drama at the Pre-Morton Games, where  David Torrence was initially given the victory after a pile-up over the line. Ten minutes later, Will Leer was named as winner for a second year by one-hundedth of a second. Ciaran O Lionaird,  in his last race before the 1500m heats at the London Olympics finished sixth in 3:57.02.Ten of the starerts went under four minutes. Selected results below.

* Michael Mac Diarmada beat his Clonliffe team mate Gary O’Hanlon to win the inaugural Fingal 10km in Swords, leading home 3,229 finishers.  Siobhan O’Doherty and Niamh Devlin were the first two women (results below). 
* Claire Tarplee of DSD, based locally, ran 2:03.46 for 800m at the British Milers Club Grand Prix in Solihull.  
* The Irish boys and girls teams both finished second behind England at the annual AVIVA SIAB Schools International in Kent.  Winners for Ireland were Alice Akers (hammer), Sinead Burke (walk)  and David Cussen (high jump). 

* Ultra runner  Keith Whyte won the Anglo Celtic Plate 100km (62.1 miles) on a hot day in Wales last Sunday.  Whyte was entered as an individual by Ultrarunning Ireland and supported  by John Collins. After taking the lead at 11 miles, Whyte went on to record a personal best time of 7 hours 19 minutes.
Whyte is the first Irish male winner of the competition; Helena Crossan won the women’s race in Galway in 2009. The Anglo Celtic Plate is a home nations international competition between Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales.


* Anita Fitzgibbon of DSD  throw a personal best 49.60 to win the javelin at today’s Woodies’s DIY National League Rd 2 in blustery Santry. Fitzgibbon had made a giant leap forward when she threw 49.54 to win her second national title a few weeks ago and a 50 metre throw must be in her sights.

Also showing good form was Thomas Rauktas of Clonliffe who won the discus with a throw of 51.46 and the shot with 14.19. 
On the track, Colin Costello, running for Meath County, won the 1500m in an untroubled 3:58.96. Donore’s John Travers was equally untroubled in the Div 1 800m, sprinting away from the field after a slow opening lap to win in 1:57.12. Other Donore winners were Anthony Russell 13.35 in the triple jump and Eamonn Fahey in the long jump.
Brian Maher of KCH strolled to victory in the men’s 5000m in 15:34.81. DCH’s Catherine McManus ran the women’s 100m as a guest clocking 12.75, while Ciara Everard of UCD, guesting in the 400m, ran  58.16.  
Veteran Olympic race walker Jimmy McDonald picked up valuable points for Menapians when he won the 3km walk in 13:27.60. 
Jessie Barr, Claire Bergin and Marian Heffernan, all members of the Irish 4x400m squad,  competed in both the 400m and in the 4x400m. This was won by DSD from Ferrybank anchored by Kelly Proper and KCH, anchored by Caitriona Cuddihy. * Brian McMahon of Clonliffe and DSD’s Sarah Mulligan were both 4th at the Snowdon International hill race in Wales yesterday. Both climbed exceptionally well, with McMahon first to the summit and Mulligan third woman.
