Results Round-Up October 5-11(ongoing)

* Siofra Cleirigh Buttner (Col Iosagain) and Ian Guiden (St Aidan’s ) won the senior races at the Brother At Your Side Clonliffe Schools Cross-Country in Santry.  Some pics at Flickr

* St Finian’s College Mullingar won the Geraldine Dolan Memorial Cup for the first time after a close battle with Virginia College and St Oliver PP Oldcastle at the Geraldine Dolan Memorial Schools Cross-Country in Ballinacree, Co Meath. 
Michael Flood of Oldcastle retained the senior boys’ title after a close battle with Niall Cornyn from St Peter’s Dunboyne. Rosanne Healy lead St Finian’s to a clean sweep in the senior girls race.
Conor Rennicks of Kells Community College and Sarah Armstrong Eureka Kells were the inter winners.


* Thomas Frazer, a former member of North Belfast Harriers  now with St Malachy’s, ran a personal best 2 hrs 18 mins 37 secs in today’s Chicago Marathon. Last month, Frazer won the Chicago Half Marathon in 67 mins 12 secs. 
Aged 31, Frazer has lived in  Lake Forest, Illinois, with his Navy lieutenant wife Rebecca and two daughters for some years. His previous best for the marathon was 2:19.42; earlier this year,  he ran 2:19.58 in Rotterdam. 
* At the Boston Half Marathon, Alistair Cragg was 5th in 64 mins 10 secs.  
* England-based Sean Connolly made a welcome comeback to racing when he won the Talaght 5-Mile held in perfect conditions today. Connolly’s time of 24 mins 21 secs was a new course record. Orla Drumm of Crusaders was first woman in 28 mins 11 secs. The race entry was boosted by a visit from the Paris-based USM Malakoff club. All finishers got a quality goodie bag including a towel as well as tea, sandwiches and other goodies. Pics at www.lindie.zenfolio.com
* Elish Kelly of Raheny Shamrock ran 36 mins 18 secs to finish first woman and sixth overall at the Grange 10km in Sligo.  Breege Connolly of North Belfast Harriers won the RunHer 10km at Stormont in and untroubled 37 mins 26 secs.
* Barry Minnock of Rathfarnham WSAF not only organised the Athlone 3/4 Marathon but won it! His time of 1 hrs 47 mins 7 secs put him 49 seconds ahead of Gary O’Hanlon of Clonliffe, last year’s winner.  Mary Laverty was first woman in 2:14.36. A day earlier, Gary had finished fifth behind his Clonliffe clubmate Sergiu Ciobanu at the Galway Bay Half Marathon. Sean Hehir won the 10km race; lots of fast times there.
